ABOUT POETRY AFRICA
 
The 20th Poetry Africa 2016 International Poetry Festival features participants from South Africa and around the world. The extensive week-long programme features performances, readings and book-launches from some of the world’s most diverse poets every evening at the Elizabeth Sneddon Theatre. The festival finale and the Durban Slam Jam take place at The Rivertown Beer Hall on Saturday 15 October. The day programme includes seminars, workshops, poetry competitions, open mic opportunities, campus invasions and schools visits.
 
COMMUNITY PROGRAMME
 
Poetry Africa features an extensive schools programme which in 2015 saw thousands of learners attending various events throughout the festival. This programme includes daily schools visits by our participating poets and spoken word artists. In addition Poetry Africa features an extensive community programme in various community centres and campuses throughout Durban and the surrounding areas. Friday 14 October also features the annual Schools Poetry Competition Awards.
