26th Duban International Film Festival : 15-26 June 2005

Throughout the 10-day festival there will be a daily programme of seminar and workshop activities, which are free and open to the public although some require an application process. These developmental events involve partners such as the Audio Visual Centre (UKZN), Durban Film Office, Imagination Lab, Durban Institute of Technology, K-Cap, MUFIP, AFDA, National Film and Video Foundation, Film Resource Unit, Sithengi, Culture Communication and Media Studies (UKZN), and DV8. Local and international filmmakers are key contributors to these programmes which this year includes Indian master Buddhadeb Dasgupta.

2005 will mark the fifth year of the week-long AVC workshop for first time filmmakers. An exciting new component is the UNESCO-supported Africa Animated 2.0 workshop, a five week animation workshop for young creatives from East and Southern Africa aimed at developing an original African approach to animation.

And not forgetting the fun, Youth Day on June 16 will again see the DFO “Youth In Film” concert.

Workshops feed the future of our festival through developing audiences' appreciation of diverse film product to nurturing the creative minds who will create the cinema of the future. This year's workshops, seminars and special events are again free (unless otherwise indicated), and most are open to the public, although some require an application process. These events cover a spectrum of activities from discussion fora, to skills development programmes and offer platforms for discourse on film industry concerns. This range of activities would not be possible without the capacity provided by a community of experts and we are grateful for their partnership and support.
