FREE WORKSHOP FOR ASPIRANT FILM MAKERS (note the new dates)

As part of the Durban International Film Festival the University of KwaZulu Natal 's Centre for Creative Arts in association with the Audio Visual Centre invites community organisations to apply for a free workshop on basic video production which will take place from 21 st to 24 th June 2005

The workshop is open to entry-level people, preferably those who have not been working in the industry but have a strong desire to pursue video production as a career option. The course will involve practical skills on video camera operation, composition, scripting and video editing. Successful participants will be awarded a certificate of attendance at the end of the workshop.

The importance of participants being attached to community organizations is that workshop participants will then have an organizational environment where they can make use of their newly-acquired skills. Community organizations are invited to nominate one or two candidates and applicants are required to submit a one-page motivation of why they want to attend the course and how it will benefit their organisation. An official endorsement of support by the director of the organization must accompany the application, and contain a description of the organization and its full contact details.

An interview process will precede final selection of between fifteen and twenty participants.

Applications may be emailed to diff@ukzn.ac.za or faxed to 031-2603074 or delivered to the Centre for Creative Arts, MTB Building , Howard College Campus, University of KwaZulu-Natal . Telephone 2601650 or 2602506 for further information. Closing date for submissions is now 23 rd May.

The Durban International Film Festival runs from the 15th to 26 th June 2005 , and is supported by the National Film & Video Foundation, National Lottery Fund, HIVOS, and the City of Durban .
