Under the artistic direction of the French collective of artists Les Grandes Personnes, a team of artists and craftsmen from Orange Farm created and produced four giant puppets featuring a mother, a father, a daughter and a son, a mask of a grandmother and a baby puppet. During the residency project which took place at the Orange Farm Multi Purpose Complex in August this year, the collective also focused on the staging, acting and handling of these magnificent creations. To the delight of audiences, the family of giants went on to parade in Orange Farm, Cape Town, Pretoria, and Johannesburg. This experience created such interest and enthusiasm amongst the South African artists that the group SA G.U.R.U. was created to take the family of puppets to many more streets and stages!
Supported by the French Embassy and the French Institute of South Africa
